An Economic Asset

Conestoga Landfill is an important asset to the regional economy. It generates approximately $26 million a year in economic benefits.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Berks County, New Morgan Borough, Caernarvon Township, and Robeson Township all share in these benefits.

The landfill provides 40 jobs, generates an annual payroll of approximately $1.6 million, and pays nearly $300,000 in wage-related and property taxes. It also spends more than $5 million a year on goods and services.

Last Year Conestoga paid:

  • An estimated $7.9 million to the state Growing Greener Fund. This money is used for grants to environmental programs throughout the state.
  • Approximately $3.5 million to the state Recycling Fund. This money supports recycling programs around Pennsylvania.
  • Approximately $5 million to Berks County for non-county waste disposed of at the facility, plus $100,000 to the Berks County Solid Waste Authority.
  • Close to $2.5 million to New Morgan Borough as a host fee.
  • $50,000 to Caernarvon Township.

In addition, Conestoga contributes tens of thousands of dollars per year in grants, goods, and services to nearly 30 local organizations, ranging from the Berks County Conservation District to the Eastern Paralyzed Vets to the Police Athletic League.
