Is there any danger in the fact that the landfill is located in “close proximity” to the abandoned Grace Mine?
No. This issue was thoroughly reviewed and studied by DEP before we were given our original permit to build the existing landfill. The proposed expansion of the waste disposal area does not lie over any portion of the underground Grace Mine and is well outside the boundary of any potential subsidence. We have closely monitored the potential for settlement for the past 10 years and twice a year submit a report to the appropriate authorities.
