Why do we have to have a landfill here?

Where waste is taken is an economic decision based on distance and cost. One of the advantages of Conestoga is its close proximity to the Pennsylvania Turnpike and other major highways. Waste trucks have to travel only a short distance on local roads, so there is relatively little adverse impact from such traffic. Conestoga Landfill also is situated in an area that, according to technical and hydro-geologic considerations, makes it an optimal site for a landfill.

Waste disposal is one of the services that is considered key in convincing large businesses and industries to establish and remain in a particular region. Thus, waste disposal is an important factor in economic development.
